Behind the Scenes: Tools, Actions, and Our TikTok Launch

Hi folks! I hope you all had a wonderful summer. On our side, things have been quite busy at Cats & Foxes, and we have plenty of news to share!

VirtualSociety is now on TikTok!

It’s official: VirtualSociety has landed on TikTok. This will be the place to show you behind the scenes of development, share cozy gameplay snippets, and, most importantly, connect with a brand-new community.

Chloé has prepared a few videos specifically for TikTok, and we’ll be posting regular updates in this new format!

Lenny makes creating actions easier

Lenny has been working on the scripting system. Behind this technical name hides a super useful feature: players and modders will be able to easily create and add new actions for their characters, or program special events. It opens the door to new types of gameplay and fresh interactions. Dance moves, stylish sitting poses, unique greetings… all of this will be much simpler to set up!

A better organization in the studio

On the internal side, we traded our digital tools for a giant post-it wall. Each team member has their own color, which lets us clearly track who’s working on what, and what’s done, in progress, or to-do.

It may sound simple, but it has truly improved our daily workflow: we can visualize the roadmap better, prioritize tasks, and move forward more smoothly as a team.

Jimmy brings his tools together

Jimmy is currently working on integrating his development branch with the new dev tools. In practice, this means merging all the separate features he’s coded into the main version of the game. This is a key step: it allows the whole team (and soon you!) to benefit from these tools without juggling multiple versions of the code.

What’s inside his branch? Among other things: the ability to select multiple objects and edit them simultaneously (move, rotate, change textures or colors!), an improved camera, and new tools for building floors and walls.

Synchronizing worlds across devices

On my side, I’ve been working on an important technical feature: world synchronization across devices. That means you’ll be able to start your session on PC, then pick it up on another device without losing your creations or progress!

Towards Vandoeuvre In Game… and beyond

We’re also preparing for Vandoeuvre In Game, our next public milestone. As in previous years, visitors will be able to try VirtualSociety for a whole weekend on four connected PCs sharing the same world!

nd right after this event, we’ll be launching a closed beta test for the first players and supporters (likely via our Patreon). This will be the perfect chance to get involved directly, try VirtualSociety in early access, and help us fine-tune the experience before a wider release.

Thank you again for your support! Every step we take is possible thanks to you. We can’t wait to show you what’s next!
